River & Sky Book

Overview

River & Sky is an annual music and camping festival along the Sturgeon River in Field, Ontario, Canada thats merges art and nature at Fishers’ Paradise, an amazingly secluded campground that feels a million miles away from the city and the doldrums of modernity.

For the 10th anniversary of the festival, I worked with the festival director and editors to create a 176-page book to commemorate past festivals and its attendees with a generous photo spread with images hand picked to celebrate long-time festival goers.

Exploration

Early exploration included cover concepts and a small “preview” booklet that was printed and distributed at the 2019 festival. The main challenge was creating and revising spreads to accommodate a shifting book length.

Denouement – The Untagnling

I created maps, icons and symbols to help the end user navigate the various features of the book, one of which included a choose your own adventure style story as footnotes that leads users on an adventure through the book. I worked with editors, illustrators, and photographers to create the final product.
